Commissioned by EY, this visual project reframes homelessness as more than an individual crisis. It asks us to look beyond the familiar stories of bad choices or personal failure, and towards the complex conditions that can leave someone without a home.

A series of large-scale nocturnal images, each centred on a fictional constellation. At first, they appear to be cinematic studies of the night sky: stars joining to form new patterns, held in moonlight and darkness. Each constellation represents a different route into homelessness—structural inequality, insecure work, rising housing costs, loss, trauma or relationship breakdown.

On closer inspection, the scene changes. The edges of a sleeping bag enter the frame. These are not distant views of the sky; they are seen from the ground, through the perspective of someone rough sleeping.

The project uses beauty to slow the viewer down, then asks them to confront what the image reveals: homelessness is neither inevitable nor “written in the stars.” It is produced through systems, circumstances and decisions—and can therefore be changed.
